Thoughts on a Hope for Change

May 7, 2008

Our world now is like a classroom
So many things we can’t assume
Or it will lead us to our doom
We must not let our guard down
Or turn our backs completely around
We must listen to the sound
To our teachers we must hear
It’s time to stop having fear
It’s time to wipe away tears
The Greatest Puzzle we must solve
Or our minds will never evolve
Ask any teacher “How fast can you cover curriculum?”
Learn history, language, science, and some calculations?
And she will reply as fast as my students are willing to go
It depends upon how much they want to know
And now in our classroom it is our turn
How fast do we really want to learn?
The kid next to you, can you tell him to stop?
Stop little Billy from standing on the table top
And tell motor Mary to be quiet for once
And tell worried Harry he won’t be a dunce
And tell Mikey to stop spitting paper wads
And tell lazy Lucy to put down her Ipod
And tell Terry to stop sending text
And tell forgetful Frank to bring in his text
And please tell Gary no more fights
Stop him please with all your might
We can’t be silly anymore
It looks like we forgot what we’re here for
It’s time to learn from the teachers who are best
It’s time for our antics to take a rest
Ever since the time of your birth
And during your short time here on Earth
You have a story you can tell
Let’s learn from each other before the bell.
